layout_octavo() calculates a layout data frame for one side of a
16-page octavo booklet signature using a standard sheetwise imposition.
Arguments
- width, height
Width and height of each (booklet) page (in inches). Defaults to poker-card size (2.5" by 3.5").
- page
Which side of the printed sheet:
1(front) or2(back).- signature
Which 16-page signature of a larger book this represents. Each increment of
signatureadds 16 to thepage_#labels.- bolt_padding
Extra space (in inches) inserted at the folds that will be trimmed open (the bolts): between the two rows, and between pages that aren't part of the same uncut two-page spread. Defaults to

Details
An octavo signature is created by printing both page sides of a sheet
(duplex, flipped on the short edge) and then folding the sheet in half
three times, giving 8 leaves (16 pages).
signature refers to which 16-page signature of a larger book is being laid out;
gathering multiple signatures together (each incrementing signature by one) builds up a full book.
Once printed and folded, the head (top and bottom of every page) and the
fore-edge (the right side of odd pages and left side of even pages) are
folded shut and need to be trimmed open; adjacent pages that instead form
an uncut two-page spread (e.g. an even page and the odd page to its right)
are not cut.
bolt_padding inserts extra space at these folds that will
be trimmed open (and nowhere else) so there is deliberately blank material
for the trim to remove, without disturbing the flush join between the
pages of an uncut spread.
